Wagara (和柄) are the traditional patterns of Japanese textiles, paper and lacquer, each with its own meaning: endless waves for calm, hemp leaf for strong growth, interlocking circles for harmony. This set draws twelve of them crisply and evenly for a phone screen, each in a colour pairing taken from the traditional Japanese palette.

The patterns: Seigaiha (青海波, blue ocean waves) in indigo and unbleached white; Asanoha (麻の葉, hemp leaf) in cherry pink and crimson; Shippō (七宝, seven treasures) in matcha green and pale cream; Ichimatsu (市松, chequerboard) in two deep pine greens; Yagasuri (矢絣, arrow feathers) in wisteria purple and white; Kikkō (亀甲, tortoiseshell) in red ochre and gold; Uroko (鱗, scales) in silver grey and slate indigo; Tatewaku (立涌, rising steam) in pale indigo-teal and white; Hishi (菱, diamonds) in straw gold and umber; Ajiro (網代, wickerwork) in two shades of wicker; Same-komon (鮫小紋, shark-skin dots) in deep purple and lavender; Kanoko (鹿の子, fawn-spot dapple) in crimson and blush.

Each pattern runs the full width of the screen and fades to a faint tone-on-tone ghost in the top 28 % and bottom 12 %, so the lock-screen clock and the home bar stay easy to read. There are no words on the wallpapers.

What you get: two zips, one for iPhone (1290 x 2796 px) and one for Android (1440 x 3200 px), each holding all twelve patterns as PNG. How to use: unzip, save the pattern you like to your photos and set it as your lock screen or home screen.
