About this file
Kikko (亀甲, "tortoiseshell") is a honeycomb of hexagons and a wish for long life, since the tortoise was said to live ten thousand years. Each hexagon here has a double outline, its border repeated as a second hexagon just inside, and a small hexagonal gem at its heart. Uroko (鱗, "scales") is a field of triangles with every upward triangle filled: the scales of a fish or a dragon, long worn as a charm against harm.
Both come in two scales. The bold tiles hold 8 columns of hexagons and 7 triangles a row, and read clearly even small on a screen; the fine tiles hold 30 columns and 26 triangles a row, for a dense, textile-like texture. Every tile repeats with no seam at any size.
Seven colourways: Yamabuki Gold (山吹, umber lines and golden gems on pale gold), Indigo (藍, soft blue on deep indigo with washi-white gems), Vermilion (朱), Young Bamboo (若竹), Sakura (桜), Sumi (墨, charcoal with vermilion gems on washi white) and Celery, a modern colourway in deep navy on celery green with cloud-white gems.
The bold scale of each repeat comes as a 2048 px and a 4096 px square PNG tile in every colourway (sRGB, no transparency), 28 tiles; each fine scale comes as the same 14 tiles in one zip. The commercial licence adds editable SVG tiles for every colourway at both scales (the fine ones zipped), with the colours set in one style block so you can recolour them in any vector editor.
Also included: origami paper as vector PDFs for A4 and US Letter, fourteen pages each, one per repeat and colourway at the bold scale. Every page holds one 150 mm (5.9 in) square and two 75 mm (2.95 in) squares, printed past the trim line with crop marks to cut on. The squares are full colour edge to edge, so they use plenty of ink; print at 100 % on thin paper.
At 4096 px a tile prints about 35 cm (13.7 in) across at 300 ppi. Use it as digital paper for scrapbooking and cards, for fabric and gift-wrap designs, stationery and packaging, or as a pattern fill and backdrop.
